Auburn Undercover The big man announced that he is returning to the Plains for a fifth season . . . It will be interesting to see if Coach Pearl will play both Broome and Dylan Cardwell, who recently announced his return, together with Broome as the power forward and Cardwell as the center. If Coach Pearl does this, he will need to go get a true center out of the transfer portal . . . The 6-foot-10-inch, 240-pound rising senior averaged 16.5 points per game in the 2023-24 season en route to being named the MVP of the SEC Tournament. Broome averaged just under 25 minutes per game and shot 54.8% from the field in his second season at Auburn. He scored in double digits in the Tigers' last 26 games of the season . . . With Broome back, Auburn could be positioned as a preseason top-10 team . . . Broome and Cardwell will help make up an experienced front court for the Tigers next season . . . This weekend, sophomore Dylan Watts, senior Tanner Bauman, and junior Carson Myers will get the call against the Mississippi State Bulldogs . . . It's an Auburn baseball team that at one point this season was ranked in the top 25 and now is fighting for a chance to maybe make the SEC Tournament . . . Auburn's senior shortstop has been stellar at the plate this season and showed off what he is capable of once again . . . A little 'déjà vu' struck the fans in orange and blue after the pitching staff allowed seven runs in three innings for the Yellow Jackets to make it a one run ball game . . . There's a week off to break it up, but playing three straight road games against Georgia, Missouri, and Kentucky will dictate the season . . . The Tigers (9-5) are the No. 3 seed after coming off their sixth-straight Southeastern Conference title last month . . . While Auburn is working the portal, the focus for Freeze and his staff continues to be on high school recruiting. Bringing in a strong 2024 class and already off to a very good start in 2025, he said the goal is to continue to build from the ground up . . . Freshman phenom Cam Coleman is already establishing himself as a potential difference-maker from Day 1 of his collegiate career . . . The 5-foot-10, 167-pounder signed with Auburn as a four-star prospect out of Trussville . . . "I've been telling the team the whole year that with every match and everything we do, we're getting prepared for these postseason tournaments . . . It's the same way at Alabama and Auburn and most places. A small number of people are carrying the load. They are going to get tired of carrying it. They already are . . . Schofill earned her exemption back in August when she won the 2023 U.S. Women's Amateur and is one of six amateurs in the field this week . . . She left the Tigers upon falling ill after her sophomore season last year. She was never a sure thing to come back for Paris, but now she's expected to make the U.S. team . . . The roster has undergone a huge overhaul with more than 50 players currently playing for the Tigers that weren't on campus when Freeze and his staff were hired . . . If Auburn is going to compete for a spot in the NCAA Tournament, it needs another pitcher to step up behind ace Maddie Penta. Senior Shelby Lowe proved she can be that pitcher . . . The Tigers may not be done as the top wide receiver in the Transfer Portal, Penn State's KeAndre Lambert-Smith has been in contact with the program . . . The winner is typically the team that limits mistakes and capitalizes on what they do best. For Auburn, that would likely entail winning big in Fences and Horsemanship . . . Auburn looks to make its fifth consecutive win a grand one as the Tigers head to the 2024 SEC Championship, April 24-28 . . . Auburn hopes most of its work was done in the first portal window. The Tigers added nine transfers thus far, and all were present for spring practice . . . |
